GOGO MOIPONE MAINE (64) will finally have her own bedroom after spending years in a run-down two-roomed house with her family of seven.

Maine is one of five locals who received a brand-new house in Freedom Square, Bloemfontein, on Friday (05/02) from the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Olly Mlamleli. She was accompanied by the Free State premier, Ace Magashule.

An elated Maine said she would finally have her own place to sleep after years of squatting with her son, daughter and grandchildren. Maine and her son, Phakiso, are the only breadwinners in the family. Maine said the two-roomed house had always been flooded during the rainy season.

Mlamleli said Maine’s house is one of many two-roomed houses that were demolished for an RDP house.

“We have demolished run-down two-roomed houses in Kroonstad, Bothaville, Heidedal, Welkom and Parys, to mention a few,” said Mlamleli. She urged recipients not to lease or sell their new homes.
