The University of the Free State’s Department of Drama and Theatre Arts brings Dogg’s Hamlet production to life on the Wynand Mouton stage with a subtle twist.

Hamlet is regarded as Shakespeare’s most famous play.

It can however be a tortuous four hour’s worth of viewing.

Hamlet can fortunately also be enjoyed without having to endure hours of self reflection and lack of action. Dogg’s Hamlet is an offbeat comedy that makes fun of the ways we communicate – especially when trying to do so in different languages.

The production returns to stage thanks to playwright Tom Stoppard.

Directors Dion van Niekerk and DeBeer Cloete have helped the UFS department’s young and talented students to craft a performance that is both amusing and confusing.

The first performance starts tonight at 19:30, with more performances tomorrow and Friday, also at 19:30.

Tickets are available at Computicket at R40 (adults), R25 (scholars, age 16 to 18), R30 (student, valid varsity/college card) and R25 (pensioner group bookings, 10 or more).
