2016-09-28 06:00

THE Free State Stoma Association is calling on ostomates, carers and the public to help fight the poo taboo in October by participating in activities on Colostomy Day.

On 5 October, a Stoma Open Day, creating public awareness, will be held at the Universitas Central Hospital in Bloemfontein.

Activities in which the public is welcome to participate, will be from 08:00 till 13:00. Awareness is aimed to tackle issues faced by people who live with a stoma.

This year’s theme is Fight the poo taboo! in celebration of World Ostomy Day.

A stoma is an opening made on the side of the abdomen through which bodily waste can pass. Anyone who has undergone stoma surgery has to wear a stoma bag to help collect bodily waste. For more information contact 051-405-3790.
