Horror after police search

2016-05-04 06:00

PHUTHADITJHABA.Z The lifeless body of Maserame Mbele (26) was found in a house at Bluegumbosch in Qwaqwa.

It is alleged that she was possibly raped and murdered and her house ransacked by an unknown person or persons, especially her bedroom.

Sgt Mmako Mophiring, the police communication officer, confirmed the incident.

He said the Phuthaditjhaba police had been summoned to a certain house in Bluegumbosch in which they had found the body of the woman.

“A member of the community became concerned when the woman was not seen for a number of days, which was unusual in their neighbourhood, and decided to alert the police.

“Upon investigation, the police discovered her body in the bedroom of her house at approximately 01:00,” he said.

He said her lifeless body was found naked in her room, next to the bed, with visible wounds on her forehead. It is suspected that she was raped before being killed.

“It appeared that she was struck with a blunt object on her forehead. The reason behind the brutal incident is not yet known. A case of housebreaking, rape and murder is being investigated,” Mophiring said.

Mophiring said the killing of women were on the rise in the Qwaqwa area. He added that not so long ago a woman had a near- death experience when she had been buried alive in a shallow grave in Monontsha.

Luckily she was discovered by a passerby, who called for help and she was saved.

He said any person with information that might lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect could contact the Phuthaditjhaba police on 058-718-0895.

“It is sad for family, friends and communities to wake up to such inhumane incidents. We request the community to give us information with regard to these barbaric acts so that law can take its course.

“As a community, we need to stand together against crime through frequent patrols within our wards or sectors to reduce any form of crime,” said the provincial commissioner of the Free State, Lt.Gen. Simon Mpembe.
