Legendary and retired nurses of the Postmasburg Hospital made this year’s International Nurses Day celebration special by joining the staff of the hospital and gracing it with their presence on Friday, 12 May.

The celebration was held in the form of a lunch where the role of nurses, who form the backbone of the public health system, was recognised.

International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on Florence Nightingale’s birthday and is a day during which nurses across the world are appreciated for their dedication to their patients.

Nurses are seldom recognised for their tireless efforts toward improving the health of society.

A retired nurse, Kitty Erasmus, delivered a motivational speech in which she shared funny anecdotes from her 42-year nursing career.
