Hospital warns people of scam

2018-02-07 06:00

Mediclinic has issued a warning to the community about a social media job scam.

The hospital group distances itself from the scam and asks people interested in seeking employment within Mediclinic to visit for all valid employment opportunities.

It is alleged that the recruitment scam is targeted at the Mediclinic Kimberley and the Mediclinic Gariep. The scam claims that these hospitals seek to employ various staff members through social media platforms.

Advertised positions may vary from those for emergency care technicians and nurses to security, porters and other administration personnel.

It was revealed that the modus operandi of such scams often includes the solicitation of money through informal channels such as money market counters to cell phone numbers as part of application or training.

“It is important to note that Mediclinic would never require a job applicant to make a payment as part of the application process,” reads a statement of Mediclinic.

Common points that may expose the illegitimacy of the advertised post include a request for upfront payment or banking details as part of application, and no mention of an interview being required.

Contact numbers on the post are cellular numbers presented as landlines. Also look out for legitimate-sounding names that resemble the company name (for instance Medi-clinic) and the use of several company logos on official-looking letterheads.

Applicants unsure of the validity of an advertised position is urged to contact the Mediclinic Careers Centre on 021-943-6111 or talentacquisition@ or the relevant hospital’s human resources department.
