The hotel school of the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, will host an open day for learners from Gr. 10 to Gr. 12 and their parents on 4 August.

Interactive activities are scheduled for the day and lots of prizes can be won.

The CUT Hotel School is at the forefront of hospitality training and offers a three-year diploma and a one-year BTech degree in Hospitality Management.

The major modules offered in this programme are: Hospitality Management, Hospitality Financial Management and Accommodation Management. Events Management also forms part of the curriculum.

To ensure its students are well-rounded individuals, the hotel school takes its role as corporate citizen to heart.

Students are exposed to practical training from their first year of study.

First-year students receive training in well-equipped industrial kitchens, the on-campus restaurants Lettuce Eat and One on Park, modern classrooms, computer laboratories and at reputable hotels in Bloemfontein.

These take pride in the personal attention given to students.

Practical training takes place in groups of no more than 15 students, while student numbers are limited to 45 in theory classes in the first year.

Work-integrated learning

In their second and third year of study, students are placed for work-integrated learning for a six-month period at a few national hotels and resorts, such as: the Cape Grace Hotel; the Kapama River Lodge; The Plettenberg Hotel; Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa; The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa; and the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel.

Career opportunities

A qualification in Hospitality Management opens doors to world-wide career opportunities as hotel manager, front-office manager, banqueting manager, food and beverage manager, restaurateur, caterer, entrepreneur, guesthouse manager or owner, coffee shop manager or owner, chef and many more.
