In November, the Tsantsabane Local Municipality mayor, Maria Daniels, the council and government departments will continue to move from ward to ward with the IDP meetings, listening to the issues confronting communities around Tsantsabane.

The activities will be part of an Imbizo month that started on Monday, 14 November, in an effort to strengthen the system of local government and corporate governance and to improve service delivery.

The string of visits is also a platform for Daniels to meet the community after the system of governance of the municipal council changed from a plenary collective with a mayor-speaker to a collective executive system with a speaker and mayor and a three-member executive committee.

With the theme “Back to Basics”, the imbizos are further meant to improve the functioning of municipalities to better serve communities by getting the basics right.

Daniels encouraged all communities to participate as much as possible to ensure the effectiveness of the process.

She said once these engagement processes are concluded, the council is expected to draft a strategy that will encompass all issues and be incorporated in the integrated development plan.

Furthermore, the outcome of the report will be tabled and debated at the ZF Mgcawu District Political Inter Governmental Forum and Premiers Governmental Forum to ensure cooperation from other government departments that might be able to assist with addressing the matters raised by communities.
