Heinrich Dauth (9), a Gr. 3 learner of the Newton Primary School in Kimberley, has been chosen as September’s winner of the Express Northern Cape Let’s Play Sports Star of the Month competition.

He was chosen for his sporting achievements in athletics, cross country, rugby and cricket.

During his school’s athletics event, Dauth won the 1 200 m event for u.10 boys.

He also ended first at the Zone C athletics event.

At the Kimberley schools and the Fichardtpark invitation athletics event, he also ended first in the 1 200 m.

During the Griqualand-West cross country event in Douglas, Dauth won the 2 km for boys u.9 and u.10.

At the interprovincial cross country event in Kimberley, he ended in fifth place overall for boys u.9 and u.10.

Thereafter he competed at the South African cross country event in Potchefstroom and ended in 58th place.

Heinrich also competes regularly in the 5 km parkrun in Rooifontein. He ranks 25th out of 1 000 athletes.

His motto is: “It never gets easier, you just get better.”
