In court for counterfeit clothes

2016-08-31 06:00

FOUR suspects from Soweto, three men and a woman aged 24 to 30, are set to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in counterfeit goods and the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Capt. Chaka Marope of the Parkroad Police Cluster said they had received a tip-off leading to the arrest of the suspects. The suspects had been under surveillance for days and the raid was conducted at a guest house in Brandwag.

Marope said during the raid, a 9 mm pistol loaded with 11 rounds, as well as counterfeit clothes worth R12 000, were discovered.

“Ballistic investigation will determine whether the firearm has been used in other crimes,” he said.

The VW Microbus used by the suspects and the counterfeit clothes have been confiscated.

Maj.Gen. Moeketsi Sempe, cluster commander, said this would show criminals Bloemfontein was not fertile ground for criminality.
