The communities of Brandfort and Winburg continue to suffer under the yoke of poor ANC governance.

This is according to George Michalakis, member of parliament and DA constituency head for the Masilonyana, Tokologo and Tswelopele Local Municipalities.

A section of Brandfort has been without electricity since Monday, 17 July, negatively affecting local businesses and households.

Winburg, on the other hand, had no water supply.

Both incidents are reportedly due to technical issues.

The DA has been in contact with the MEC for Finance, Elzabe Rockman, requesting her to intervene.

“We have been informed that repairs are being brought on by aging infrastructure and that the delay in restoring electricity supply is due to a specific part that had to be ordered from outside the province,” says Michalakis.

“This incident highlights the failure of the ANC government to ensure effective maintenance and the replacement of old infrastructure.”

The Masilonyana Local Municipality was placed under section 139(1)(B) administration by the ANC Free State Provincial Government in an attempt to rectify the poor governance of the ANC local council, which saw the deterioration in the municipality’s financial situation.

As a result of the financial situation, the municipality’s face the council is unable to pay suppliers. Failure to do so results in poor service delivery and also halting the and a lack of maintenance of critical infrastructure.

Since the municipality is currently under administration by tThe provincial government is now responsible to ensure that service delivery does not come to a halt,” says Michalakis.

“However, the ultimate solution to the woes of the ANC’s poor governance in Masilonyanawill be when the people reject the incompetence of the corrupt ANC government and vote for real change at the ballot by voting for the DA.”
