Jerry Links shines bright at Morester

MORESTER JEUG stet defender Jerry Links has been outstanding this season.

Formerly with Steach United and Kuruman Kicks, Links’s arrival at Jeug saw him being handed the captain’s armband this season.

His incorporation in the team was seamless and consistent. Not only has he been effective in defence, but he has also proven useful in attack.

Despite a slow start to the campaign, the Upington side managed to win its stream and is likely to face Colville United in the provincial play-offs.

The first leg of the competition will be played on 14 May, with the next a week later.

Having been at the play-offs with Steach United before, the Kimberley-born defender is ready to guide his teammates into this challenge.

“We don’t underestimate Colville, because they have good players, but we are ready to fight and we want to go to the national play-offs. We have good support from management and the technical team.”

During his time at Steach and Kicks, Links was lucky to play alongside experienced players such as Kabelo Kelly, Kabelo Metsimetsi and Mkhanyiseli Siwahla.

“Metsimetsi encourages me all the time. He says I can go far, because I am talented.”

There was a time when his life would have gone off the rails, but Links’s family was always supportive. He grew up with Bradley Ralani, who is currently playing in Denmark for Lyngby FC.

Links sees him as his idol.

“My mom and elder brother, Themba Links, have been there for me through thick and thin, and my homeboy (Bradley) Surprise Ralani is someone I look up to.”
