The recent 20th Grey College OMS athletics meeting at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein saw South Africa’s next generation of stars make their mark. The annual event held on 13 October, showcased abundance of talent in track and fields’ events.

This year’s edition saw 26 schools from seven of South-Africa’s nine provinces showcased their talent. Almost 1000 athletes participated in this sporting event.

A total of 11 new records were set, to prove the standard of the meeting and signalled the emergence of potential future stars of the country. Among top performers were Grey College two u.15 juniors, DJ Liebenberg (shot put) and Lucky Moleyane (200m and 100m sprinter). They stole the limelight in their respective events and each received an award for their individual performances.

Moleyane was duly awarded accolade of the best track athlete for brilliant performance in the sprint events, 100m and 200m, finishing 10.91 and 21.95 in the respective events.

The record for the sprint events is 10.60 (100m) and 21.60 (200m).

Liebenberg took home two awards, the best junior field athlete and best boys’ athlete” award. He attained first place in the shot put with a distance throw of 17,82m and earned him 931 points.

The second highest in the event, with only Elaine Pretorius from Fichardt Park who scored 964 points for hammer throw. She also took gold in the discus with 57,45m, earning her 911 points and 11th place in the top 50 with.
