As part of Droogfontein Solar Power’s 67 minutes in honour of Mandela Day, the solar plant has chosen to give back to the community of Phutanang by providing much-needed equipment to the Tlhokomelo Day Care Centre.

Equipment provided to the crèche included cots for babies and younger toddlers, as well as blankets and mattresses, and much-needed first aid kits.

Staff of the créche will also be attending skills workshops for teachers, principals and governing body members to improve the crèche’s management.

The Tlhokomelo Day Care Centre is owned and headed by Susan Lebone, who saw the need to care for young children in her community almost ten years ago.

She initially operated the day care from her home before being given access to land by the Sol Plaatje Municipality.

The plant manager of Droogfontein Solar Power, Mpho Makhetha, takes pride in being able to lend a helping hand and hopefully make a difference in the lives of the beneficiaries.

“This small day care centre in Phutanang provides essential care to toddlers and babies in the community, so we are pleased to be assisting in this regard,” said Makhetha.

“We are pleased to be able to help Mrs Lebone to offer quality early learning opportunities and a safe and stimulating environment for young children whilst their parents are at work,” concluded Makhetha.
