For the first time in its history, the Kyoshinkan Karate National Championship will be held in Bloemfontein. Sempai Kabelo Sebotsa, who is currently holding the black belt first degree in shodan, will be hosting the event on 12 August in his capacity as dojo operator and a representative in Bloemfontein and the Free State.

According to Sebotsa, it has been more than ten years since Bloemfontein hosted an event of this magnitude.

“The 2017 championship will have a total of 15 senior divisions and 20 junior divisions, with winners awarded for positions one to four. The total number of trophies and medals to be awarded is 140,” said Sebotsa.

The South African branch chief of the tournament, Simphiwe Dlulane, said many of their members around the country and across the borders in countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe and the DRC have already shown interest in this year’s tournament.
