BOHLOKONG. – For the past four years, Mokgapi Munchusi, owner of Mzanzi Style 9 Nine Catering, has been working in a small shack in Grey Street with limited resources to prepare delicious traditional food for his customers.

The Bohlokong-born Munchusi says he had been struggling to get a bigger and better place, but he could not get one. Working with two other people in the same shack was tough, but they had to soldier on.

However, that problem is now a thing of the past, as he has received a modernised mobile kitchen that has almost everything that he needs in it, courtesy of the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality.

Munchusi’s business is among the 14 small, medium and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs) that received assistance from the district municipality as part of local economic empowerment.

The business equipment that has been handed out include garden tools, seeds, catering equipment, a hammer set and toolkit, hair salon equipment and tyre changing equipment.

“I don’t know what I can say to the municipality. But surely this is a life-changing gesture. The mobile kitchen has got everything in it, including a fridge. I am sure my customers will love the new kitchen and will invite other people to come and buy at my shop,” he said.

Malefu Vilakazi, the executive mayor of the district municipality, urged the small business owners to work hard so that they can help in growing the economy of the municipality.

She said they will make sure that they monitor all the businesses in making sure the equipment is being used in a correct way.

“We want our people to grow. Yes, we don’t have money, but I am happy that with the little money we have, we have managed to change other people’s lives,” she said.

She said she is willing to work for the people who have elected her, but she requests the community’s support, adding that without them, she would be nothing.

“I will always humble myself and do my job. You should not thank me, but thank the ANC and God, who knew a long time ago that this day would come.”
