Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa has sent his condolences to the family of former Mineral and Energy Affairs Minister Roelof “Pik” Botha, who passed away in the early hours of Friday (12/10).

Botha (86) passed away after an illness which saw him being admitted to a Pretoria hospital in September.

Prior to 1994, Botha served as the Foreign Affairs minister for 17 years.

He also served as South African ambassador to the USA, as the minister of Mineral and Energy Affairs in South Africa’s 1994 cabinet until May 1996, and he became deputy leader of the National Party in 2000.

Later, he joined the ANC as a member under former Pres. Thabo Mbeki.
