BETHLEHEM. – The championship race in the South African Football Association (Safa) South African Breweries (SAB) League in the Thabo Mofutsanyana Region is hotting up, with the teams approaching the final hurdle.

The weekend’s games have produced 32 goals, with only three teams – Petsana United FC, Mighty Wits Academy and Dla2 FC stet – winning their games, while others played to scoring draws.

Wits beat Royal Nightstet by 2-1 at the Ladybrand rugby stadium on Saturday (30/01).

Dla2 hammered FK FC by 3-1 at the Monontsha Stadium on Sunday (31/01), followed by a 2-1 win by Petsana away to FC Junior Sport at the Ladybrand Rugby Stadium.

Mathematically, every team in the league can still win it.

However, the teams in the top eight are the ones with a real chance of lifting the trophy.

Only nine points separates the team at the top of the log, Zamalek, from the team in ninth position, FC Junior Sports.

Zamalek have 29 points after 17 games. Clarens Galaxy FC, Mighty Wits Academy and Badoroang FC are second, third and fourth respectively.

Royal Night are rooted at the bottom of the log, with just seven points after 17 games.

Four teams, including Karolo FC, Shooting Stars FC, Ace Mates FC and Rhino FC, are still faced with the tough task of securing enough points to escape the relegation zone.

Other results

  • Clarens Galaxy 2-2 Badoroang
  • Shooting Stars 2-2 Zamalek
  • Ace Mates 2-2 United Wanders
  • Karolo FC 3-3 City Spurs
  • Rhino FC 2-2 SuperSport
