League speaks up

2017-11-15 06:01

The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Northern Cape revealed its endorsement of their support for Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to take over as ANC president at the party’s December elective conference.

The decision of the league in the province follows a unanimous outcome of a secret ballot by the extended Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) for Ramaphosa as president of the ANC.

A show of hands for the additional members, as prescribed in the guidelines, was practiced at the congress.

The league held an extended PEC meeting on Friday (10/11) where five officials from all five regions, including the ANCWL’s National Executive Committee (NEC) members, Nkagisang Ngesi and Johlene Ntwane, were reported to attend the meeting.

The extended PEC meeting came ahead of the worldwide campaign opposing violence against women.

The 16 Days of Activism of No Violence against Women and Children campaign is held from 25 November to 10 December every year.

Through its provincial secretary, Topys Vilakazi, the league calls on every member of the community to be each other’s keepers to ensure the end to gender-based violence.

“The Women’s League in the province is of the firm view that the success of this campaign rests on our daily individual and collective actions to safeguard our society against this abuse,” she said in a statement.
