Young potential models flaunted their stuff on the runway at Kimberley Technical High School (THS) on Tuesday, 27 March, during the annual Mr and Miss THS Beauty Pageant in the school hall.

The glamorous event is the brainchild of teachers Tharina van Tonder and Viki Mpompolas.

According to Van Tonder there is a need for more school activities where the learners can show their individuality and talents.

“We created the Mr and Miss THS pageant as a way to showcase our amazing talented learners at the school. The school has always been regarded as a boys’ school because of the technical subjects offered, but we actually have more girls than boys in our school,” she said.

According to her, they had 53 contestants modelling in day and evening wear in order for the top five girls and the top five boys to be announced, and after that the winners.

The event saw Tayo Cooke (Gr. 10) being crowned as Mr THS 2018 and Amber van der Merwe (Gr. 11) as Miss THS 2018.

The first prince is Mosimanigape Mokae (Gr. 11) and the first princess Joy Welcome (Gr. 12).

Mikaeel Stanfley (Gr. 10) emerged as the second prince, flanked by Pricilla Selebogo (Gr. 9) as second princess.

The crown for Miss Personality went to Anuscha Assegaai.

The winners will compete in the upcoming Mr and Miss Kimberley High Schools’ Pageant later this year.

Last year, the 2017 Miss THS, Yonela Louw, and the 2017 Mr THS, Asaph Norman, were crowned as the second princess and prince respectively.

THS also presents an annual Kimberley Schools’ Talent Show where high school learners can perform and reveal their level of talent.
