Learners to gain by scholarships

2016-10-19 06:00

AN exciting opportunity of a lifetime await high school learners for the 2017 academic year in the form of scholarships.

The scholarship is offering a total of R250 000 to cover school fees and other education expenses, including sports tours, for those to be chosen as winners.

In total, 50 scholarships of R5 000 each will be awarded to learners who will be chosen as the most deserving.

The scholarships are made possible by the financial service company, DirectAxis, as part of its Currie Cup sponsorship.

The scholarships, to cover expenses for the 2017 academic year will be paid to the schools that the chosen learners attend.

“We sponsored the Currie Cup, because it’s the competition which gives players who may go on to become super rugby or even Springbok players a chance to show their potential.

“The scholarships are intended to do the same thing, giving learners, whether girls or boys, an opportunity to shine,” said Emanuel Cristaudo, chief executive officer of the sponsor.

The school scholarship programme was launched on Tuesday (11/10) at the Tafelsig High School in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, where Springbok and Olympic medallist, Seabelo Senatla as ambassador addressed the learners about the significance to seize opportunity.

“Sports and education go hand in hand. That’s how I got my scholarship. Greatness is in you.

“You can be whatever you want to be, if you work hard at it and if you really believe you want to be that. It is a choice,” said Senatla.

To stand a chance, interested learners or their guardians must apply by visiting the webpage at www.yoursupportplayer.co.za and fill in the online application.

The closing date is 7 November 2016. The successful applicants will be informed from 14 November onward.
