People describe life as a cycle. They say that life has its ups and downs. Some days you will be happy and you are bound to have days which are better than others.

I am yet to hear someone talk about their dark days. I believe that each and every one of us goes through darkness in our lives. When happiness fills up your life, you are at ease and everything seems to be going smoother than a machine running on oil, but the dark days come too. It is not always easy to admit, but we go through the saddest times in our lives, not because something horrible has happened, but simply because we need to feel.

It would be inhuman for us to always be happy. Sometimes you need to feel down, confused, depressed and weak, so that you may grow wiser and learn. It takes both sunshine and rain for the flower to blossom. One needs the dark days to appreciate the light of day.

The challenges you face today which might make you feel inadequate, powerless and not good enough are what prepare you for greatness. Do not take anything for granted. In the same way you celebrate your achievements and cherish your joy, do not forget to appreciate your scars, no matter how ugly they are. It is through bad experiences that you earn your testimony, the story which will be the tool you use to save someone’s life. You are a love letter to someone, you are the evidence that what does not kill you, will only strengthen you. Do not dwell on your disappointments, even if you are the cause of the events, because in all honesty, that is not who you are.

Always strive to do better, to get better at what you do. The challenges set for you are not there to destroy you or take away your hope, but they are there to strengthen and build you into whatever you aspire to be. Above all, they are there to show someone else that one can pull through and one can get through whatever situation, no matter how difficult the situation may be.

It is important that we learn how to keep hope in every situation we face; we need to learn to see beyond our challenges and ourselves. We need to acknowledge the different seasons we are presented with.

The dark days are life’s necessities and one needs to feel the pain of growing and maturing into a whole functioning human being. If it takes going through the fire so that we may be fine like gold, then we shall endure. You are not your past, pain, rejection, disappointment and failure. You are your imperfect perfect self, so love and appreciate that.
