A Bloemfontein fashionista has received a much-needed financial injection to get her business, Mosardi, to thrive.

Tholwana Moshodi, an enterprising designer from Heidedal, is one of the 12 winners in Shoprite’s national Hustle competition.

The cash injection is provided for marketing support to sustain her business. The value of the support is over R70 000.

The competition has been designed for entrepreneurs with an annual turnover of less that R1 million.

Moshodi entered her clothing design business and struck it lucky.

She started her business in 2014, creating bucket hats to fit any girl’s head and hairstyle.

As a marketing graduate with an eye for fashion, Moshodi grew her business into an all-female clothing brand that fuses urban and traditional African prints and patterns to create effortless, yet bold, clothing.

Her ability to manage the little funds she generated helped her to not only successfully create her business, but also to transform it.

She produces garments and accessories, as well as fabric shopping bags, backpacks and head gear.

Her business is steadily growing, and she aims to have the business thrive by buying hand-held sewing machines to produce more, to meet the demands of steadily growing clientele.

The energetic youth’s plan is to provide sewing classes to wheelchair-bound individuals to enable them to develop skills and be part of the fashion industry.

She dreams of employing staff members to assist with the production process, procuring industrial sewing machines and buying material in bulk.

“I hope to take Mosardi further than the markets I currently exhibit at in Bloemfontein – to the entire Free State province and then the whole of South Africa,” said Moshodi.
