DIE skielike dood van die rugby-superster Jonah Lomu het rugbygeesdriftiges wêreldwyd geskok. Lomu se eerste vrou, Tanya Rutter, was van Kimberley. Hulle is in 1996 getroud nadat hy haar tydens die 1995-Wêreldbeker in Suid-Afrika ontmoet het. Die Rutter-gesin het in Hullstraat gebly. Kimberley het al verskeie groot rugbyspelers opgelewer, waaronder die Springbokspeler Ian Roberts wat vroeër vanjaar oorlede is. Ander groot name is Chubb Vigne, Daniel Smith, Fred Alexander, Tony Harris, Klondyke Raaff, AF Marsberg, Uncle Dobbin, Sep Ledger, Theo Samuels, Sidney de Melker, William Martheze en Uncle Dobbin.
