Same-sex marriage has been legal in South Africa since the Civil Union Act (Act 17 of 2006) came into effect on 30 November 2006.

Abortion, on the other hand, has been legal in South Africa since 1996 under the Choice of Termination of Pregnancy Act (Act 92 of 1996). This Act officially came into effect on 1 February 1997.

I am a Christian. I believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

I strongly believe that the Bible is the very breath of God.

I try to live by it in both deed and word, which is a struggle. But that is a conversation for another day.

Having said that, please note that I am not advocating anything contrary to the Word of God. However, I do have a few concerns with certain human behaviours that I would like to share.

Abortion used to be considered a taboo subject in many of our communities; something that could cause the immediate death of your Christian walk with God.

Now, people hardly blink at the though of having one.

, but now it’s ‘whatever!” Same-sex marriages were also not as popular as they are now.

Statistics show that gay marriages have increased from 3 327 couples registered in 2011 to 8 967 in 2016.

This number keeps on growing.

Lately I have noticed fellow Christians pushing away same-sex couples committing to marriage.

What baffles me, is that each time same-sex marriage is brought up, every “Christian” that drinks, curses, slanders, gossips and has premarital sex is suddenly concerned with what the Bible does and does not allow.

It is amazing how we compare our sins with those of other people, and conclude that ours are not as bad as theirs.

We have allowed pride to rob us into thinking that we are holier than others, simply because we sin differently or we consider our sin to be less offensive to God.

We forget what Jesus said in Luke 5:32:“I have not come to call those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”

That is the very reason why Jesus died on the cross.

Who are we to judge? Only God sits that high.

All we can do, is love everyone – purely and unconditionally. Love your neighbour. Your gay neighbour, Muslim neighbour, Jewish neighbour, addicted neighbour and your black or white neighbour.

Our communities are broken from the inside, and the best cure is perfect love.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear . . . – 1 John 4:18
