THIS year marks the 19th instalment of the Mangaung African Cultural Festival (Macufe), a music extravaganza staged annually in Mangaung, Bloemfontein.

This year’s edition will be from 30 September till 9 October, culminating in the spectacular football match between arch-rivals Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs who will be battling out for the ultimate prize, the coveted Macufe Cup.

This year’s theme is Igniting the African Spirit.

It resonates with the significance and pride of Africa. This year’s music line-up includes award-winning Andy Narell (USA), whose steel pan prowess earned him world popularity.

Headlining the line-up will be songbird Karyn White of “Superwo-man” fame, also from the USA.

Living up to the theme, the event will be graced by Roneo Mputu from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The Free State Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, spared no effort in its support for Macufe as the region’s economy thrives during this week-long event.

Macufe is proudly also supported by the National Department of Arts and Culture, Standard Bank, National Lotteries Commission, Mangaung Metro Municipality, Free State Tourism, Lesedi FM, The New Age and ANN7.

The week-long series of the Macufe events will kick-start with Tshepe versus the New Age Squad of Hip Hop on 30 September at The Dome, Old Grey sports ground, from 18:00 to 02:00.

Tickets are available at Computic-ket and Shoprite/Checkers.
