The Mimosa Mall in Bloemfontein has been declared safe for trade since Tuesday (12/12). Business has been affected since Friday (08/12) after a fire raged inside the multi-million rand shopping mall.

André Rossouw, acting marketing manager of the mall, says selected stores started trading early on Tuesday and all entrances and parking levels will be accessible, except for the basement entrance in Nelson Mandela Drive.

“The restoration works are in full swing and the removal of smouldering stock in the affected tenant’s storeroom from the site has been prioritised to enable the opening of the mall for public use,” says Rossouw.

“The building has also been cleared of most of the smoke and affected areas demarcated by use of partitioning to contain the smoke from the remaining debris circulating into the rest of the building.”

He says the source of the fire has still not been established, with investigations still being underway.

“Checkers and Game will commence trade once refurbishments have been completed. We thank the public for their patience and support in this unfortunate event and we reassure the public and tenants that the safety of our customers, tenants and staff remain our top priority.”
