Maluti FC continues decline

2016-04-20 06:00

PHUTHADITJHABA. Z The lifeless Maluti FET College FC has officially been relegated from the South African Football Association’s (Safa) Free State ABC Motsepe League to the Safa South African Breweries (SAB) Regional League.

The College boys who have failed the ABC Motsepe test are now rooted at the bottom of the second-tier league with four points after 26 matches played.

Even though they are left with two games, they should now start to prepare to play in the Thabo Mofutsanyana Regional League next season.

The hopeless Maluti cannot catch the Shamrock Flowers, who are above them with 11 points after 25 games.

Their dream of saving their status came to an end following a 2-2 draw that saw Flowers securing a point from the underperforming Super Eagles FC from Bohlokong near Bethlehem.

They will welcome the runaway log leaders of Manco Milan FC at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday (20/04) at 15:00.

Milan are on top of the log table with 59 points after 28 games. The league rookies are leading Mangaung United FC and the Central University of Technology (CUT), who are second and third with five and eight points respectively.

The Qwaqwa-based outfit are continuing their downward slide that saw them relegated last season (2014-’15) from the National First Division (NFD) after a two-year stint.

The team rose to prominence when they hammered Premiership giants Orlando Pirates by 4-1 in the 2013 Nedbank Cup. They were promoted to the NFD in the same season.

However, they have lost it all by now going down to the Safa Regional League.

Meanwhile, the other three teams from the Eastern Free State are sitting on positions six, nine and 11. Dikwena United FC from Qwaqwa, a team that was promoted last season with Milan, has had an impressive run, as they are currently sitting on position six.

Last season’s runners-up, Eagles, have had a worse season as they find themselves at the wrong foot of the table, sitting ninth with 37 points with two games remaining.

The Free State Stars development team, the FS Development Academy, is sitting on position 11 with 31 points.
