The police in Bloemfontein have made a breakthrough in the investigation of a hit-and-run incident of a biker after arresting a suspect that drove the vehicle involved.

The police arrested a 42-year-old man in relation to the accident that landed biker Jason Pieterse (22) in the Pelonomi Hospital on 9 June.

According to the police, the suspect was arrested in De Aar on Friday (14/06).

He is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court this week, and will face a charge of reckless and negligent driving.

Footage of the incident shows that the driver did not stop at the intersection of Nelson Mandela and Markgraaff Street in Westdene. After causing the accident, he fled the scene. Pieterse sustained severe injuries to the face and head, but is recovering.
