The 37-year-old Ricardo Arghillus Absalom (37) has been found guilty of raping a minor for a second time.Last week, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the De Aar Regional Court for raping an 8-year-old girl, after a previous conviction in 2008 in which he had been sentenced to eight years in prison. According to Capt. Olebogeng Tawana, in the most recent case Absalom had called to the victim, who had been playing with her friends, and sent her to buy a cigarette and a piece of snoek (salted fish) for him at the tuck shop.“The girl went to the shop and came back, not knowing that she would be raped by a person that she trusted,” read the statement.Tawana stated that Absalom had grabbed the victim and dragged her into his room, where he raped her. He was arrested immediately after the girl had reported the incident to her aunt. “The police’s investigation into the rape resumed, and she led the investigating officer to the crime scene. Evidence was collected here which linked the accused to the crime through DNA.”Tawana further said that credible witness testimony of the incident, as well as outstanding investigation done by the investigating officer, secured the conviction.
