A 43-YEAR-OLD man briefly appeared in the Hartswater Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (13/10) on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Francois Fourie, a member of AfriForum, is facing these charges after allegedly attacking Petso Mothibi (33) of Bonita Park, an employee of the Phokwane Municipality, on the night of Thursday, 6 October.

According to Lt. Sergio Kock, provincial police spokesperson, two other people have been arrested in connection with the incident that took place in the small town of Hartswater.

The case was postponed to Tuesday (18/10) to allow for Fourie to appoint a lawyer and for further investigation into the case.

According to Kock the other two suspects still has to go through the identity parade.

Mothibi was allegedly assaulted at around 20:30 while he was reportedly on a plumbing night duty at a local take-away shop with a friend.

Magistrate Betsie Muller presided over the case and the prosecutor was James Dada.

AfriForum called Express Northern Cape to give its side of the story, but has not yet sent the statement in writing as requested by the newspaper.

The reporter requested a statement and explained that it was for the purpose of avoiding being misquoted.
