Man jailed for lover’s murder

The Virginia Regional Court has sentenced Tebello Paleli (24) from Meloding to 15 years imprisonment for murdering his live-in lover. He received an additional three years for defeating the ends of justice.

He was sentenced last Wednesday (10/04), rendering justice to the victim Difedile Annah Thupudi (23). Magistrate Sonwabo Mgudlwa sentenced Paleli who buried Thupudi’s body in a shallow grave after killing her.

In a plea agreement, read to the court, Paleli stated that on 30 May 2018, he had an argument with Thupudi after accusing her of cheating on him. A fight ensued between them and he bumped her head against the floor and then strangled her.

Police got a tip-off where the victim’s body was buried and was exhumed. Despite the accused pleading guilty and not wasting state resources, state prosecutor Ramontseng Lekhetho insisted on severe punishment for his crimes.

Magistrate Mgudlwa concured with Lekhetho.

Paleli was therefore sentenced to effective 15 years imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
