A young man from Qwaqwa, who wilfully skipped out on his trial for rape and burglary, is expected to be sentenced soon. The accused, Tshepo Prince Mofokeng (23), went missing after his appearance in the Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court. The court found him guilty on three counts of rape and two counts of housebreakings at different places in Qwaqwa. The crimes reportedly happened between 2014 and 2016. Sgt Mmako Mophiring, spokesperson of the Phuthaditjhaba Police Cluster, said the accused was rearrested within 48 hours and will be brought to book. He said Mofokeng “mysteriously” disappeared on the final day of his trial for two burglaries cases and three rape cases. “The accused disappeared at the time the court adjourned for lunch on Monday, 26 February. He did not return after lunch to proceed with his trial. The court then issued a warrant to rearrest him. He will remain in custody until the trial is finalised,” said Mophiring. After an extensive search, Mofokeng was rearrested in the Makwane Village at his girlfriend’s home.
