Man sentenced to 20 years for rape, robbery

QWAQWA. - Mlungisi Edwin Booi (22) of Mabolela Village in Qwaqwa was sentenced to effective 20 years in prison by the Thabo Mofutsanyana Secure Centre and One Stop Child Justice Centre on Thursday (19/11).

The sentencing comes after he was found guilty of house robbery and the rape of a 30-year-old woman. He was sentenced 15 years for house robbery and 20 years for rape. The sentences will run concurrently and he will serve 20 years in prison.

The 30-year-old victim from Phuthaditjhaba alleged that she was sleeping in her house, on 22 February, with her two children when they were threatened at knife-point. He robbed her of her cellphone and raped her. He was later arrested. The matter was investigated by Det.Const. Mmapitso Virginia Letaoane of the Phuthaditjhaba Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
