MEC gives thanks, urges dedication

An appeal has been made for parents to focus on developing their children into responsible leaders.

The call was made by Mac Jack, the Northern Cape MEC for Finance, and Tourism and Economic Development, when he addressed the elderly at the Britstown Community Hall during the Christmas party he hosted in December last year.

He urged parents to instil discipline in their children, since they learn from their daily experiences.

Jack was honouring his promise to the Britstown community after a plea for him to host a Christmas party for the elderly.

“You made us who we are and thus I saw fit to, carrying this little I have, thank you for your support year in and year out. It is your support that continue to make us stronger,” he said.

The MEC’s appeal was related to the country’s current instability. He said that things were not going as expected in South Africa. Jack touched on the bad situation that the country was in due to inequality.

“South Africa is not the same as it was during the reign of Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki.

“But as Mandela said: ‘A country that does not take care of its elderly is not successful.’

“Thus I am heeding this call, taking into consideration that not all of us are equally fortunate. The little we give, we give it with love.”

He encouraged the community to stay positive amidst the political imbalances and said that positive changes would come eventually.

“We hope for the best in the future and will welcome those changes coming our way.”
