MEC welcomes editor

THE newly-appointed editor of Express received a congratulatory message from MEC Tate Makgoe.

“We welcome and congratulate the newly- appointed Express editor, Teboho Setena, who has for the past years held the ethos of journalism in high regard.

“His passion for the community media is one that sets him apart and we believe that he will continue to build the Express legacy as one of the most read and leading newspapers in the Free State.

“Setena’s work ethic cannot be criticised, as he has proven himself over and over again.

“He also worked at OFM, Free State Times, as freelancer for the South African Press Association (Sapa), Sowetan and also two French television stations during the World Cup.

“His passion and loyalty to the paper and also the support he got from Media24 set a benchmark. Many community newspapers mushroomed. Some had a very short life span and others are still thriving, but no other newspaper has managed to surpass the standard set by the likes of Setena.

“We believe that Setena will continue by his favourite quote by Walter Lippmann that says:‘There can be no higher law in journalism than to tell the truth and shame the devil’ and remain truthful and objective in managing the paper.

“As part of the Free State community and the Department of Education, we hope not only to communicate through the paper and give developmental information to the readers, such as learner registration, bursary schemes and school governing body elections, but also to hear from the readers what they expect from the department.

“We hope that the Express medium will continue to be the mouthpiece of the community. We urge all education stakeholders to work with Setena.

“This relationship will be beneficial to both the community and Media24.”
