‘Metro budgeted to finish piggery’

The Mangaung Metro Municipality still plans to complete the unfinished piggery facility in the Felloane Trust in Thaba Nchu.

This is according to Qondile Khedama, spokesperson of the municipality, in his response to media enquiry into the current state of the project.

The project remains in doubt after the contractor, Izani Projects, abruptly stopped work in June 2017, allegedly due to dire financial constraints.

The municipality is a stakeholder providing funding to enable the Namatsegang Piggery Project (which has 21 beneficiaries, presently trading informally) to run full steam.

“We did visit the piggery as a study group. The floor of the piggery needs to be completed. There is money budgeted for completion,” said Khedama.

Tebogo Maseme, managing director of the company that received the tender, still has not responded to media enquiries regarding the abandonment of work at the facility and alleged unpaid monies to seven labourers who were temporarily employed.

Zweli Thwala, DA councillor in Ward 41, said intervention was being made through the writing of a letter to the Mangaung city manager, Adv. Tankiso Mea, requesting answers about the project.

“The DA submitted questions to find out why the project had been abandoned, and to determine the exact costs and how much has been paid to the contractor thus far,” said Thwala.
