“Children are born to move, and through Monkeynastix we encourage them to explore and discover the world through their senses and their bodies.”

This was explained by Monkeynastix franchise owner Daleen Janse van Rensburg, who teaches Monkeynastix in Postmasburg, Olifantshoek, Lime Acres and Danielskuil.

The whole initiative is motivated by the idea that monkeys were born to move, probably because they would get up to mischief if their hands were not permanently holding onto a branch.

Kolomela Mine, a business unit of Anglo American, sponsored the Monkeynastics programme for all Gr. R learners in the Tsantsabane Municipality for 2017.

This movement education programme is geared towards children under the age of eight and offers basic training in flexibility, balance, strength, agility, coordination, body awareness and healthy living.

The sponsorship is all due to the mining company’s belief that investing in the educational development of children is beneficial.

“We believe that programmes like Monkeynastix helps to stimulate the growth and development of children,” says George Benjamin, public affairs manager at Kolomela Mine.
