TSHIAME. – Hleza Mofedi, a former Free State Stars and Orlando Pirates player, has been appointed head coach for the Tshiame All Stars FC.

This announcement was made to the club’s players on Saturday, 4 June, at the team meeting held at the clubhouse in Tshiame.

Mofedi has been entrusted with the duty of guiding the team to championship glory in its first appearance in the South African Football Association’s (Safa) South African Breweries (SAB) League in Thabo Mofutsanyana.

All Stars was formed in January. The management of the team bought SAB status from Super Sport FC of Bohlokong, Bethlehem.

Therefore, the 2016-’17 season will be the club’s first in this league.

Tatolo Mbongo, chairperson, revealed that the club was actually aiming for Safa ABC Motsepe status. He said the team was too good to play in the SAB league, but they had to settle for what they had received.

He pointed out that he would surely consider buying that status, should any team come with an offer.

“I grew up in Tshiame and played football here. I never received good enough guidance to see myself playing in the professional division. I still love football with all my heart, hence I decided to start the team,” Mbongo said.

The ambitious Mbongo said he would be happy to see the team playing in the National First Division (NFD) within the next three to four seasons.

“We are here to stay. Remember, this is where we wanted to be. So, I am going to make sure that I support the boys so that they can give me results.”

Mofedi has been tasked with realising All Stars’ dream of playing in the next league. He last played for Badoroang FC of Fouriesburg during last season.

“We appointed him because we were happy with his rich football history. We know that he played at professional level and we believe that he will help us to reach our mission and vision,” Mbongo said.

Mofeli said he was humbled to be given a team with such a big name to work with and added that he was up for the challenge.

“I still have to meet with the boys and get to know them better before we start the season,” Mofedi said.

“I know that there is a lot of work coming and we will make sure that we beef up the squad so that we can reach what we want at the end of the season.”
