Municipality faces power supply cut

2020-02-26 06:05

Upon failing to pay its huge electricity debt by this week, the Letsemeng Local Municipality in the Xhariep District runs the risk of having its power supply cut by Eskom.

To avoid withholding the supply of electricity, the power utility granted the municipality a seven-day grace period to settle the amount.

The cash-strapped municipality is at the mercy of the Free State Treasury, which reportedly made an undertaking to assist in making the payment.

Eskom served a notice to the municipality on 31 January.

It stated its intention to cut the power supply due to the municipality’s apparent breach of its payment conditions.
