BY Saturday night (19/03) South Africa will have a new queen Z better known as Miss South Africa.

Although none of the beautiful girls from the Northern Cape will be participating on Saturday, the Northern Cape will be presented through the new crown for Miss South Africa.

The new crown has three large purple sugilite stones which were mined in Hotazel, about 70 km from Kuruman in the Northern Cape.

A new crown was designed as the old one had to be retired since it caused a lot of “headache” Z the old crown was extremely expensive and had to be guarded constantly, at a cost.

The newly-designed crown, called Enhle or beauty in isiZulu, is a magnificent piece created by Jack Friedman Jewellers.

The designer of the crown, Howard Friedman, said the other stones used in the crown were amethyst and white quartz crystals.

A key feature of the new crown, which is made of silver, is the inclusion of an infinity sign to symbolise the enormity and ongoing nature of Miss South Africa’s role.

This role is not only during her year of reign, but also into the future.

The crown’s three largest sugilite stones, also called luvulite and sold as the stone of love, are often associated with royalty, thanks to their purple colour.

“Sugilite is believed to have protective and healing properties,” said Friedman.

“We hope that it will keep her safe during her reign, as well as help her to unite our nation” said Friedman.

The names of all former Miss South Africa title holders will be engraved on the crown.

The pageant will be broadcast on M-Net and Mzansi Magic from 17:00 to 19:00.
