The Bankhara-Bodulong Intermediate School’s best was not good enough to see this Northern Cape team through to the top four at the national final of the Danone Nations Cup for u.12 boys.

Featuring the nine winners, one from each of the provinces, the final was staged at the W.J. Clements Stadium in Reiger Park, Soweto.

The Northern Cape boys faded in the development tournament. The school from Kuruman had replaced the Roodepan Primary School from Kimberley.

The Bankhara-Bodulong boys’ poor performance meant they also lost a once in a lifetime opportunity to represent South Africa at the Danone Nations Cup global final in September. This year’s world final will be staged in America.

The tournament runs in accordance with the Fifa rules as stipulated for the 10 to 12 year age group and therefore each game lasts 15 minutes.

The Bankara-Bodulong team went to the final with one change to the original school line-up, but could not rise to the occasion.

The team was guided by coach Gaza Mosala, who has a South African Football Association (Safa) Level 2 coaching certificate. His team found the going tough and finished the competition without a win.
