BLOEMFONTEIN. – The Free State Legislature has congratulated Limakatso Patricia Mahasa on her appointment as the new Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for the Department of Social Development.

The premier of the Free State, Ace Magashule, announced the changes in the Free State cabinet on Monday, 3 October.

On this occasion, it was announced that Mahasa is now a new MEC.

Mahasa has served as a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) since 2014.

Later she was the chairperson of the portfolio committees on gover-nance responsible for the Office of the Premier, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Legislature and Police.

Mahasa also served as a member of the portfolio committees on infrastructure development responsible for Public Works and Infrastructure, Roads, Transport and Human Settlements, as well as social services responsible for education, health and social services.

Furthermore, Mahasa also served as a member of the chairperson’s panel aimed at improving the work of the House Committees in the Free State Legislature.

Mahasa’s appointment confirmed the government’s commitment towards the recognition of women and youth leadership within the Free State and the country at large.

Life Mokone, the chief spokesperson of the Free State Legislature, says as the Free State Legislature, they are grateful for her valuable contribution and her attributes as a down-to-earth person who was equally critical.

“We wish Mahasa all the best with her new responsibility.

“We also extend our well wishes to the MECs who have been given new responsibilities within the executive council,” Mokone said.

  • The following MECs were assigned new roles: MEC Butana Komphela: former MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, now MEC for Health;) MEC Sam Mashinini: former MEC for Economic Development, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, now MEC for Police, Roads and Transport;) MEC Sisi Ntombela: former MEC for Social Development, now MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta);) MEC Benny Malakoane: former MEC for Health, now MEC for Economic Development, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs.
