THE newly-appointed executive mayor of the Frances Baard District Municipality, Buyiswa Ximba, has emphasised the importance of total commitment and dedication from all council members in uplifting the community.

At a council meeting held on Monday (29/08), she promised to oversee such upliftment.

In her acceptance speech Ximba promised that the district municipality would work hard to ensure that there was service delivery.

“We are here to serve our community, and that is what we will do,” Ximba said.

The meeting also saw the election of the new speaker, McDonald Silingile.

According to Ximba’s profile, she started her political career in 1986, while she was still at school, as a member of the Congress of South African Students (Cosas).

In 1994 she was a volunteer during the first democratic national elections, doing door-to-door campaigning and voter education.

In 2011 she was democratically elected as an ANC ward councillor at the Magareng Local Municipality and served as the chairperson of the infrastructure committee.

She was seconded to the Frances Baard District Municipality as a councillor, serving in two different portfolios, namely as chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) and as an additional member of the infrastructure committee.

Ximba held these positions until the end of the term of office of this council in July 2016.
