The police in Odendaalsrus are appealing for public assistance to help solve a rape case.

Capt. Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson, said the case, where a 14-year old girl was raped in the vicinity of Cosmo tavern in Kutlwanong, is at an advanced stage. The rape suspect was traced through DNA.

“The girl is wanted in order for the police to proceed with the case,” said Thakeng.

According to him the victim was reportedly raped on 16 October 2016 at about 02:00.

“The girl was with an unknown female companion at the Cosmo tavern. She and her companion went outside as the tavern was about to close. The girl was left alone and apparently forced to a nearby field by an unknown African man, where she was raped,” he said.

The police are appealing to anyone who has information about the girl’s whereabouts to contact the investigative officer, Det.WO Fanie van der Merwe, on 057-391-6189 or on 083-791-3738.
