The next generation of football stars hoping to make it in the big league as their predecessors already in the limelight, stand a quality chance via the Nedbank Ke Yona Challenge.

This once-in-a-life-time opportunity beckoning the 16 players in the Ke Yona team, comes with a tough fixture against the Nedbank Cup holders, Free State Stars on Sunday (09/09).

The enterprising team will battle it out with Ea Lla Koto for the Nedbank Ke Yona Challenge glory at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa.

“The life-changing prospect of being part of the Ke Yona squad is what has the remaining players beaming with enthusiasm and hope, the same hope that Bloemfontein Celtic left-back, Bongani Sam (20), experienced this time last year.

“These are the kind of opportunities that Nedbank endeavours to secure to uplift our players as well as the communities from which they come,” said Tutu Skosana, Nedbank sponsorship football manager.

The eagerly-awaited encounter will afford the crop of 16 players a golden chance to showcase their talent at high level.

The match is also the pinnacle of the gruelling path to glory they started six months ago with trials and mentorship under the watchful eyes of the coaching duo Khabo Zondo and Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba.

Sunday’s outing is the perfect opportunity for the selected 16 young lads to showcase their talent and what they acquired under the mentorship of the two experienced coaches.

The 2017 Ke Yona Team prides itself being the first ever to score a goal, courtesy of Zamuxolo Mdluli when they lost by 1 – 2 to Nedbank Cup double champions, SuperSport United.

This year’s generation has a mammoth task to write its own history by striving to win.

The Ke Yona Team is yet to win a match since it started in 2013.
