In an effort to take the institution to new heights, the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State (Pacofs) has appointed Peter Pedlar as chief executive officer (CEO).

He took office on 1 August, replacing Greg Segoneco, who left Pacofs in 2017.

Pedlar has been offered a five-year term.

With a wealth of experience spanning over two decades, having worked as both chief financial officer and chief operating officer, Pedlar is believed to be able to turn around Pacofs.

In addition to his experience are his academic qualifications: Hons.B. (BA) of the University of Stellenbosch and B.Com. obtained at the University of the Western Cape.

He also has certificates from the Wits Business School, the World Bank/Federal Reserve (Banking Supervision) and the Euromoney Institute of Finance (Treasury Management).

Pedlar worked as chief financial officer at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town from 2016 to 2018.

During his tenure, Artscape reportedly attained clean audits.

Pedlar was chosen as the new Pacofs CEO thanks to his qualities and work history in the arts and culture industry.

“He was also the deputy director-general in the joint Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology, responsible for finance and corporate services,” said Maseeta Makgabane, Pacofs spokesperson.

“He is a man seasoned in the art of management and, having worked in diverse sectors such as arts and culture, manufacturing, IT, financial services and research, he knows what it takes to deliver in the private, parastatal and public spheres.

“There is no doubt that he will always strive to take Pacofs to greater heights, while still ensuring that the institution functions optimally.”

Makgabane said the institution is counting on Pedlar’s excellent expertise in corporate governance.

“He was one of the first South Africans to become a member of the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN).”
