Rising chess star Kamogelo Senatle (17) a Gr. 11 learner at the Hodisa Technical Secondary School in Bloemfontein has been chosen as the SuperSport Let’s Play Sport Star of the Month for Express. He is the winner for September.

Kamogelo was chosen for his sporting achievements in chess following consistent performances in the various competitions in which he participated.

He won medals representing his school, region and the province at national tournaments.

Kamogelo won a gold medal at the Mangaung Zone Schools Chess tournament and was credited for his performance when selected to compete at the Motheo Chess tournament held at Le-Reng Secondary in Ladybrand during August.

His impressive performance saw him qualify to participate at the provincial schools chess tournament held at Lourierpark Primary School in Bloemfontein. He came second and received a silver medal.

Kamogelo was part of the Free State team that represented the province at the National Schools Chess tournament held in Durban during July. At this competition that featured nine provinces, he achieved a bronze medal.

As the winner of September, Kamogelo automatically becomes a finalist for the 2019 Sport Star of the Year. The winner of the prestigious award will be named at the annual competition year-end award ceremony set to be held in November 2019.

Kamogelo’s motto is: “I can, and I will, by the grace of God.”
