Player owns up to fraud

A FORMER Premier Soccer League (PSL) player has come clean about being an age-cheat and has told his personal story about a common plague in South African soccer.

Do you know the case of Goodman Sauhatsi? Or should we say Musa Magagula?

The former Free State Stars player has told the whole story of how he used his cousin’s ID to pretend to be three years younger and win a playing contract.

“Yes, I cheated, but this wasn’t all of my own making, because there was someone who orchestrated all this. Unfortunately, that person has since passed away, so I just have to deal with the consequences alone,” the player reveals in the August issue.

Just one of those consequences are that he has not played professional football since his contract with Ea Lla Koto was frozen and then terminated during the 2011-’12 season.

Other people’s lives have also been ruined by players who use fraudulent papers to get ahead in football and Magagula believes the cheating can only stop if more players are caught or speak up.

“Plenty of players are sitting with a sense of inner guilt right now and are ashamed to come out and speak out about this.” –
