The Mrs/Miss Plus World South Africa pageant national crowing for 2019 is planned for 2021 following postponement because of the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19). The organiser of the pageant for curvy and full-figure women will host the event during April with the winners thereof representing South Africa at the world final in Georgia, Atlanta.

Samuel Leeuw, franchise director, gave the Covid-19 pandemic as the chief reason as his decision to host the pageant’s national final next year. He says the initial plan is to host the final during February in 2021 with the Free State capital Bloemfontein playing host.

Leeuw hopes that the Covid-19 threat would by then be under control globally and that it will be possible for the two category winners to represent South Africa at the world final. The pageant has gradually attracted huge interest among the participants.

Leeuw says the 2019 provincial winners of both categories will still be eligible to compete for the global leg final of the pageant which is held during August to coincide with the commemoration of women internationally.

Approximately 24 finalists representing seven provinces are expected to vie for the national crown in February.

The Free State already has seven contestants followed by Gauteng with five. The Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and North West have two representatives to compete in the unmarried category of Miss Plus World SA.

Kenalemang Itholeng from Bloemfontein was crowed as the Mrs Plus World SA winner and Murunwa Mphigalale from Johannesburg as Miss World Plus SA for 2018. Dipolelo Hou was the first woman to represent South Africa at the Miss Plus World pageant and was crowned as the Miss Plus Size Universe Campaign Queen at the Miss Plus Size Universe 2018.

Hou was shortlisted for the seventh Ms Plus Size Universe beauty pageant after a string of successes in South Africa. She won the title of Ms Plus World SA 2017 and was crowned as the Ms Plus World Ambassador 2018.

Hou, who originates from Botshabelo, now serves as the ambassador of the beauty pageant designed specially for well-endowed women. The pageant’s objective is promotion of the beauty of curvy and full-figure women and encourage them to value themselves.) Express is the print media partner of Miss/Mrs Plus South Africa World.
